David de Gea: Manchester United goalkeeper signs new deal at Old Trafford

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has signed a new contract to stay with the club until 2023.
De Gea, 28, has produced 367 United looks since Sir Alex Ferguson brought him to the club from Atletico Madrid in a 18.9m bargain in June 2011.
“My future is fixed, all I want is to help this team reach that which I believe we could and win prizes again, together,” said the Spaniard.
“It’s been a privilege to spend eight years at this great club.”
De Gea, capped 40 times by Spain, helped United win the FA Cup, the Premier League title in 2012-13 and both the League Cup and also the Europa League.
The Spaniard, who has consistently been linked with a transfer to Real Madrid lately, was at the year of his deal and could have been able to open talks within a move in January.
He came close to joining Real in a 29m move in September 2015, however, the deal collapsed because the necessary paperwork was not submitted in time.
United and De Gea were with the club making a better deal in discussions for more than a couple of years within the deal that is new.
“The opportunity to continue my career at Manchester United is a genuine honor,” said De Gea, who has the choice to extend the contract for a further season.
“Ever since I arrived here, I might never have imagined I would play over 350 matches with this club.
“I still feel I have a whole lot more to reach at the club and I truly feel that Manchester United can construct to the club’s heritage of success and reward our supporters for their service.
“I’m committed to continue supporting the fans for each the attention they’ve shown me through the good times and the bad.”
De Gea and the club have played in all five of United’s Premier League games in 2019-20, seven points.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explained:”I am delighted that David has dedicated his long term future to the team.
“Over the past few decades, David has proved himself to be the best in the world and a crucial portion of our plans as we seem to take Manchester United back into wherever it belongs.”
