Jon Rahm is eyeing the opportunity to emulate his idol Seve Ballesteros after moving into a share of the lead at the DP World Tour Championship.
Rahm, looking to acquire the season-finale for another period, birdied four of his final two holes combine Mike Lorenzo-Vera at the peak of the leaderboard and to post a 66 at Jumeriah Golf Estates.
Victory for Rahm can see him combine Ballesteros since the only Spanish gamers to win the Race to Dubai or the European Tour Order of Merit, providing Bernd Wiesberger finishes outside of the top two, with all the world No 5 confident of ending the year as European No 1.
Gives me goosebumps to think about that [winning the Race to Dubai], Rahm told Sky Sports. As a Spaniard, whenever you connect or you have the opportunity to place your name onto a record where there is only 1 name and that title is Seve (Ballesteros), its pretty impactful.
It is really emotional for all of us. To think not Sergio (Garcia) or Miguel ??ngel (Jimenez) or even Ollie (Jose Maria Olazabal) or even a number of other wonderful players can get it done.
Its hard to think I have the opportunity to be the next, but Im just going to attempt and enjoy the day. Hopefully I can keep this moving tomorrow for 18 more holes and be the last person standing
Fleetwood stays in the hunt to acquire the Race to Dubai using a 70, for the second time in three decades.
Though a finish would be enough if Rahm does not end with a fourth Rolex Series title Another victory in as many starts would visit Fleetwood shirt the standings, as long as Wiesberger stays outside the two.
One thing I probably havent done great in the past is that you misjudge exactly what you believe a winning score could be you believe guys will keep going at it, Fleetwood said. You never understand whats going to happen on a Sunday.
Whatever you can do is play your golf and hit your shots, and then get the best score you can and see whether thats good . It will go on the market, trying my best.
Theres a few more situations. Theres 1 tournament and then there is the Race to Dubai. I believe its only an extra challenge, thats all. So far, I feel like I have done a terrific job of this.
