League of Legends Worlds Group Stage Day One Round-Up
Legends World Championships League is here. To the Summoners Cup, 16 of the planets finest teams have begun their struggle after a week of play-ins.
Teams in Group A might have to wait till tomorrow to kick off their Worlds campaign but C Groups B and D also have experienced. From Fakers remarkable return to Worlds to J Team, heres a round-up of all the action from day one of the Worlds Group Stage.
SKT produced their return at the very first match of the group phase with a victory over Fnatic to Worlds. It was an intriguing game from the outset as Teddy decided to play with Kayle along with Hylissangs Garen and Yuumi – departing Faker around the Tristana which proved to be incredibly successful as the Korean laner ended up with a 9/0 KDA.
The LCK seed didnt hold back because they secured each monster of the match and bagged themselves 21 kills.
But Fnatics support Hylissang confesses that although he didnt think his side went to lose, he is happy to acquire the mistakes from the way on.
He said:I have mixed feelings. We had different expectations although I feel like we did fine. It seems much better because I dont think we played well, that we lost – . Im just glad that we made these mistakes early on in the tournament because we have time to fix them.
I think SKT played nicely but I also think they played slow. Even though we lost, than they did, I feel as though if we were the enemy team we would have snowballed the match faster and took much more battles. We werent able to capitalise on them and punish them although mistakes were made by them too.
I expect us to go far in the championship but I cant really say just how far. First, we must have out of Groups and when we get from this category it says a whole lot in my opinion.
Group C has been known as thegroup of death however RNG are decided to get out of it alive once they obliterated Clutch Gambling with a 14k gold lead.
Clutch made a good start when Damonte baited Xiahou to fasten First Blood with the aid of the Nocturne of Lira. But their fortune less or more stopped there as RNG three quick kills that were procured to take the lead.
Uzi had the perfect KDA on Xayah, Langxs Renekton was unstoppable and Mings Blitzcrank was a decision because he picked off Cody Sun.
LMSs ahq gave Invictus Gaming a run for their money however, they were able to conquer the defending champions.
Ahqs ADC Wako was able to best his own counterpart JackeyLove early but IG didnt provide their opponents the opportunity. Despite dropping the first turret and the Rift Herald IG turned their game around with some important skirmishes and group fights.
Most importantly, the LPL third seed compelled a fight around Baron, turned in their opponents and was able to kill four to eventually end the match in 29 minutes which was the quickest game of the afternoon.
When Team Liquid took Koreas Damwon Gaming the first upset of the day came in the fourth match. Large expectations were put following their sweep at beating and play-ins G2 from scrims for Damwon despite being the seed from Korea.
Following Impact killed Nuguri and Doublelift bagged himself a quadra kill however, Team Id pulled off an astonishing win. Together with their Baron buff of this match, the North American side managed to seal a significant victory over Damwon and CoreJJ considers that it wasnt that far of surprise.
He explained:Im really thrilled that we won from a team that I believe a strong team but we believed wed win because we are the very best seed out of NA and theyre the seed from LCK.
North America has traditionally been considered as a weaker region in the Worlds stage – something CoreJJ yells off.
He explained:I hope people keep flaming us till the end since it feels much better to win if they dont expect you to triumph
J Teams success over FunPlus Phoenix was undoubtedly the days biggest upset. Even the LMS side made their Worlds debut when they faced the number one seed and FPX, who had been believed among the favorites of the tournament of LPL, revealed there had been a lot they had to improve on.
Despite getting blood and carrying practically every one of the dragons in the sport, FPX appeared weaker in team fights and J Team were able pick off members of the side over and over again.
The FoFo of J Team admits the success came as a surprise and is so confident his team can beat GAM and Splyce if they are ready to keep their form.
He explained:We all think that its really amazing that we beat LPLs first seed and were really pleased about it. We didnt expect to beat on them but we gave it our all and we wanted to appreciate our first time .
I have not really thought about whether well get from groups or not – all I want is for our staff to do to the maximum of our abilities. If were in good form then I believe we can beat all the other teams in our group but if we are not, we probably wont be able to win any of these games.
Splyce proved themselves to be a serious competitor in Group B as they conquer GAM Esports in the days last game.
Humanoid, Splyce mid laner was one of those standout players of this game. Levi managed to assassinated Humanoid along with his Khazix however, it did not stop Splyce from procuring Baron and earning their first win of the championship to EU.
