League of Legends Worlds Group Stage Day One Round-Up

The expected League of Legends World Championship is now here. After a week of play-ins, 16 of the planets best teams have started their battle to get the Cup of the Summoner.
Teams in Group A will need to wait until tomorrow to kick off their Worlds campaign but Groups B, C and D have experienced an eventful day. By the remarkable return to Worlds to the shock defeat of FPX to J Team of Faker, here is a round-up of the action from day 1 of their Worlds Group Stage.
SKT left their return with a medical victory over Fnatic at the first match of the group stage. This was an interesting match from the outset as Teddy decided to play Kayle into Rekkles along with Hylissangs Garen and Yuumi – leaving Faker around the Tristana which proved to be powerful as the middle laner that is Korean ended up using a 9/0 KDA.
The LCK seed didnt hold back because they procured each monster of this match and bagged themselves 21 kills.
But Fnatics service Hylissang admits that while he didnt believe his side were going to lose, hes glad to find the mistakes out of the way early on.
He explained:I have mixed feelings. I feel as we did fine but we had different expectations. It seems much better because I dont believe we played well that we lost – . I am just glad we made these errors early in the tournament because we have the enough time to correct them.
I believe SKT played nicely but I think they played too slow. Despite the fact that we lost, I took more struggles than they ever did and feel as though if we had been the enemy group we would have snowballed the match. Errors were made by them but we werent able to capitalise on them and punish them.
I expect us to go far in the tournament but I can not really say just how far. To begin with, we must become out of Groups and if we get out of the group it says a whole lot in my opinion.
Group C was known as thegroup of death but RNG are determined to escape it once they obliterated Clutch Gambling using a gold guide.
When Damonte baited Xiahou into his very own jungle to secure First Blood with the support of the Nocturne of Lira clutch made a fantastic beginning. But their luck less or more ended there since RNG three kills that were quick that were secured to take the lead.
Uzi had the ideal KDA on Xayah, Langxs Renekton was unstoppable and Mings Blitzcrank was a handy decision because he picked off Cody Sun.
Invictus Gaming was given a run for their money by the ahq of LMS however, they werent quite able to conquer the champions.
Ahqs ADC Wako managed his own counterpart JackeyLove on but IG did not provide their opponents the opportunity to snowball. Despite dropping the Rift Herald and the turret to ahq, their game turned with group fights and a few skirmishes.
Most importantly, the LPL third seed forced a fight about Baron, turned in their competitions and was able to kill four to finally finish the match in 29 minutes that was the fastest game of the afternoon.
Once Koreas Damwon Gambling was taken down by Team Liquid the upset of the day came in the fourth match. Large expectations were put for Damwon following their sweep at overcoming and play-ins G2 in scrims despite being the seed from Korea.
Following Impact killed Nuguri and Doublelift bagged himself a quadra kill Team Id pulled off an impressive win. Together with their Baron enthusiast of this match, the North American side managed to seal a significant victory within CoreJJ and Damwon believes that it was not that much of surprise.
He said:Im really thrilled that we won from a group which I consider a strong team but we believed we would win because were the top seed from NA and theyre the seed out of LCK.
North America has traditionally been regarded as a region over the Worlds point – .
He said:I expect people keep flaming us till the end since it feels much better to win if they do not expect you to triumph
J Teams success over FunPlus Phoenix was by far the biggest upset of the day. Even the LMS side made their Worlds debut when they faced FPX, that were believed among the favorites of the tournament and LPLs number one seed, revealed there were a lot that they had to improve .
Despite carrying nearly all of the dragons from the match and having first blood, FPX appeared weaker in staff fights and J Team managed to pick off members of the side over and over again.
The FoFo of J Team admits that the victory came as a surprise and can be convinced that his team can beat Splyce and GAM if they are in a position to maintain their form.
He said:We think that its really incredible that we beat LPLs very first seed and we are really happy about it. We did not expect to beat on them but we gave it our all and we just wanted to appreciate our time .
I havent actually thought about if well get from groups or not – all I need is for our team to do to the maximum of our abilities. If we are in good shape then I think we could beat the rest of the teams in our team but if were not, we probably wont be able to win some of those matches.
Splyce proved themselves to be a serious competitor in Group B since they conquer GAM Esports in the days previous game.
Humanoid, Splyces 19-year-old mid laner was among the standout players of the match. Levi managed along with his Khazix however, Splyce didnt prevent from procuring Baron and earning their first win of the championship to EU.
