Odds Indicate Fitzpatrick Has the Edge on Rosen to Win Dolphins Starting QB Job
Whenever the Arizona Cardinals drafted Kyler Murray Using the first-overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the writing was already on the wall for Josh Rosen’s tenure from the desert.
Despite the Miami Dolphins buying low on Rosen shortly after, the UCLA product is not ensured the starting job in his new environment.
Online sportsbook BetOnline has recently released a prop on which quarterback will begin Week 1 to the Miami Dolphins from the Baltimore Ravens, using journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick because the thick -300 favorite. Rosen is coming back since the +200 underdog in the shop.
Dolphins head coach Brian Flores recently told reporters that Rosen is struggling with basic things like”getting guys in and out of the huddle,” decision-making and body language. Per Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, the team has already made plans to be in presence for the majority of the games Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa, Georgia’s Jake Fromm and Oregon’s Justin Herbert.
Contemplating the Dolphins obtained Rosen in the Cardinals for a second-round selection in this year’s draft, Miami general director Chris Grier wasn’t making a enormous bet on the 22-year-old. This is going to be an incredibly important year for Rosen, as if the Dolphins do opt to take a quarterback in the first round of this 2020 draft, then he will very likely be searching for his third NFL team in as many years.
Fitzpatrick is far from a long-term alternative at the quarterback position for the Fins, however, the veteran looks like the safer choice under centre using the normal season drawing nearer. The 37-year-old showed flashes of brilliance for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers while filling in for Jameis Winston final season. “Fitz-magic” failed to have a few speed bumps on the way, however, and it’s been a requirement for him to play at a level throughout a complete year in his profession.
You’re not likely to find much value at the current -200 number, but financing Fitzpatrick to win the starting gig is a no-brainer to me. If Rosen lights up it in the rest of the preseason contests that may change, however, I feel new head coach Brian Flores will elect to choose the much more experienced Fitzpatrick over the inconsistent Rosen from the gate.
The Dolphins boast that the cheapest projected season win total in the league at OVER/UNDER 4.5, plus they have the highest opportunity to win at the Super Bowl (+15,000). It is likely going to be a long year at South Beach, but the quarterback situation is certainly something to keep an eye on.
