The Arizona Diamondbacks do Not Have a day off after their slugfest against the Los Angeles Dodgers on the weekend.
They jump straight to a series against the San Diego Padres from town. The Diamondbacks attracted an win against the Dodgers to maintain their postseason chances living. It was much needed success against a group they were underdogs in to each match. They were not able to notch the sweep Sunday but an impressive series.
Acquiring the Dodgers is going to become an impossible task, but they’re alive to get a wildcard. Cubs and the Nationals are beginning to put some separation between themselves and the rest of the package, though. It is critical that the Diamondbacks keep playing solid baseball in September. Together with the Cubs, they must be worried about Phillies, Brewers, and the Mets, so it is not likely to be easy.
The Padres are trusting that everything comes in the next season with the bar of Manny Machado. The first was a bust without a visit to the postseason. And yes, they’re into the last month of the year going out of the film. Their Visit was closed out by the Padres with an 8-4 win on Sunday to San Francisco. That places them two games behind the Cubs until they are out for the final postseason spot, which signifies a matter of time.
Ty France needed a huge day for the Padres as he connected for 2 balls. It had been the very first multi-homer game of the livelihood of France. There’s a Whole Lot of young talent to like around the Padres. Then the Padres will be a sleeper in 2019, if Machado plays up to his own contract.
A lot of folks had them as a sleeper team in 2018, but that they failed in this regard, everybody will overlook them. Beefing up their turning would be an excellent starting point to getting a better team next season. Rookie Cal Quantrill has got a place in the rotation next year. He demonstrated enough and has room to grow as well. Quantrill understands the starting nod against Mike Leake within this one. Head under for our free Padres vs. Diamondbacks select.

Besides that intermittent outing, he has been locked in this season, although cal Quantrill is coming off his worst start of this year. Going into his latest start against the Dodgers, Quantrill possessed a 3.32 ERA. That obtained skewed all the way around 3.99 after allowing 8 earned runs in 4 innings.
Having said that , it was the game that Quantrill allowed more than 3 runs since June 14th from the Rockies, where most pitchers fight and that has been at Coors Field. Quantrill went 12 right appearances, without permitting more than 3 runs, including out of their bullpen. In 10 out of 12 games, he allowed 2 or runs, so it appears like his effort from the Dodgers was still an outlier.
Heading to his matchup from the Dodgers, Quantrill permitted 2 or less runs in eight of his nine appearances. He’s been solid on the road, with a 3.75 ERA and also 1.03 WHIP in 36 innings of work. His opponent in this one, Mike Leake, has fought with his club. Leake was acquired by the D-backs and he hasn’t been as sharp in Arizona. Leake submitted a 4.27 ERA in Seattle and has a 6.59 ERA in five starts with the Diamondbacks.
Leake has allowed 6 runs against Padres’ hitters at 35 at-bats. Four players at the Padres’ lineup have struck on .333 or even better against Leake. It isn’t a massive sample size, but I am not feeling so sexy about jumping Leake in -130. That is a little too expensive and is based mostly on what the Diamondbacks failed against the Dodgers. After leaving all of it out there on the 18, they could be in for a letdown. Quantrill looks like adequate value here in the desert because of an underdog.
