After registering for Guildford Phoenix, former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has embarked on a new career in hockey.
The 37-year-old, who is now technical and performance advisor at Chelsea, retired at the end of last year from professional football.
Cech trained with the Czech Republic, the Guildford Flames , earlier this season and a different hockey has since joined the Phoenix.
I am thrilled to have the chance to play with the Phoenix to get match encounter, Cech said in a statement on the club website.
I hope I will help this young group to reach their goals for the season and try to win as many games as possible when I have the opportunity to playwith.
After 20 years of professional soccer this is going to be a terrific adventure for me to play the game I loved to play and watch as a child.
Phoenix head coach Andy Hemmings stated:The registering of Petr is massive for the Phoenix. Hes an excellent guy who trains hard and I cant wait to watch him make his introduction.
Club head coach Milos Melicherik added:Were very eager to have Petr combine the Phoenix staff and were excited about watching him in action in weekend.
Hes improved a great deal since I saw him to the ice hockey and I am eager to see him play.
