Raheem Sterling not at Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo’s level, says Pep Guardiola
Pep Guardiola insists Raheem Sterling Hasn’t yet Attained the level of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Sterling has launched the new season in form, scoring eight goals in seven matches for Manchester City and England.
England manager Gareth Southgate considers the 24-year-old has the potential become the best footballer on the planet and to overtake Messi and Ronaldo.
Guardiola has advocated those comparisons to be ignored by Sterling.
“Hopefully he cannot read too much and listen to such kind of items, it’d be useful for him,” said Guardiola, ahead of Saturday’s trip to Norwich – live on Sky Sports.
“nobody can compare Cristiano [Ronaldo] and [Lionel] Messi.”
Sterling set up as England defeat Kosovo 5-3 on Saturday at St Mary’s and scored one.
The former Liverpool winger has managed six goals in as many games such as England and Guardiola is pleased to see his player shine on the worldwide stage.
“I’m so satisfied with what he’s been doing since we’ve been together,” said Guardiola.
“Everything that has happened to him is good because he has an amazing work ethic and he’s a remarkably great man.
“Every time that I know that the situation is going nicely, not only with us, but by means of the national group, his country, I’m thrilled.”
