Raheem Sterling not at Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo’s level, says Pep Guardiola
Pep Guardiola insists Raheem Sterling has not yet reached the level of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Sterling has started the new season in form, scoring eight goals in seven games for Manchester City and England.
England manager Gareth Southgate believes the 24-year-old has got the capacity be the best footballer in the world and to overtake Ronaldo and Messi.
But, Guardiola has urged those comparisons to be ignored by Sterling.
“Hopefully he can’t read too much and listen to such kind of things, it’d be helpful for him,” said Guardiola, ahead of Saturday’s trip to Norwich – live on Sky Sports.
“nobody can compare with Cristiano [Ronaldo] and [Lionel] Messi.”
Sterling scored one and set up two more as England beat on Kosovo on Saturday.
The former Liverpool winger has now managed six goals in as many matches such as England and Guardiola is pleased to see his participant shine.
“I am so pleased with what he’s been performing since we’ve been together,” said Guardiola.
“Everything that’s happened to him is great because he’s got an extraordinary work ethic and he is a remarkably nice man.
“Each time that I understand that the situation is moving well, not just with us, but by means of the national staff, his country, I am thrilled.”
