Anna Nordqvist and lexi Thompson will get another chance to do battle this month at the Solheim Cup, two decades from making one of their most memorable contests in the history of the tournament.
Team USA arrive in Gleneagles as two-time defending champions following their 2015 success using a 16.5-11.5 victory in Iowa in 2017, where Thompson and Nordqvist’s singles game lit up the last round.
The leading player of europe lived up to pre-match expectations with the duo heading on to share the spoils, as the opening game of the day.
Thompson struggled on the greens as Nordqvist birdied her opening four holes with American captain Juli Inkster coming out to the path to try and provide some support, to race four ahead.
The lead remained four at the turn following a concession at the ninth canceled out Thompson’s two-putt birdie at the fifth, by abiding by some birdie at the 10th with a hole-out eagle at the next, just for her to kickstart her fightback.
Thompson left a birdie at the par-three second, before renovating a 20-foot eagle and picking up another shot in the next to move.
Neither player managed to pick up a shot at the par-three 17th to depart Thompson going for Nordqvist, just in the last having a guide to fire her approach to five feet and knock at the birdie.
