Steven Gerrard admitted that he was”amazed and flattered” to listen to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp tipping him as his successor.
Klopp, who was named the coach of Best FIFA men said he believes Rangers boss Gerrard is.
“If Liverpool were to sack me then perhaps Kenny [Dalglish] would be the first choice to replace me, but they’d likely bring Stevie from Glasgow,” Klopp told Four Four Two. “Should you ask who should follow me, I would say Stevie. I assist him whenever I can.”
He hopes and expects that the German will be at Anfield for years to come, while Gerrard, who skippered the side to the Champions League in 2005 and also made 710 appearances for Liverpool, was thankful for the remarks of Klopp.
“I was surprised and flattered at the identical time,” Gerrard said when asked regarding Klopp’s remarks. “But when you read this quote very carefully, like I’ve got, ” stated,’if I get sacked tomorrow’ he thinks Steven Gerrard should be another Liverpool supervisor.
“Jurgen Klopp is not getting sacked tomorrow. I really don’t need him to have tomorrow. He is doing a great job.
“I am a Liverpool fan. I am convinced every fan on the planet endorses what I’m saying here. We need him to stay for many, many years and deliver to our team as much success.
“But it was quite flattering at exactly the exact same moment.”
After signing a contract Rangers into some second-place finish in the Scottish Premiership last 28, gerrard took over at Ibrox.
